Carl Robinson will take charge of his first match in charge of Newcastle Jets when they head to Bankwest Stadium to take on Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday night.

The Welshman saw his new team snap a nine-game losing streak with a much-needed 4-3 win over Central Coast Mariners in a pulsating F3 Derby.

While Robinson believes that win could spark a late-season push for the top six, he would have worked overtime this week on fixing the side’s leaky defence.

If the Hunter club can register back-to-back wins, they would close to within one point of the Wanderers.

Like the Jets, the Red & Black head into this one on the back of a win over the Mariners in their last outing back in Round 17.

That gave new boss Jean-Paul De Marigny a dream start to life in the Wanderers hot-seat and he could become the first Western Sydney coach to win their first two Hyundai A-League games in charge of the club.

It was the Jets who prevailed in the last meeting between these two clubs this season, a 2-0 victory at McDonald Jones Stadium in November.
