Wilmering made his return from an ACL injury in the Wanderers clash against Melbourne Victory two weeks and ago and has since made an immediate imapct, starting in two matches and having two vital assists.

“I think the last couple of games for me was just getting back and getting the rust out,” said Wilmering.

“The two assists I have had have been goof for my confidence but I think I can always improve and do a bit more.

“I need to bump those assist numbers up.”

Heading into tonight’s match against City, Wilmering is confident the Wanderers will be more consistent in their performance for the full 90 minutes.

“I think the first half against Adelaide let us down a bit, I think the way we need to start needs to be better,” explained Wilmering. “We can’t give ourselves a mountain to climb each game.

“It was like that against Wellington as well.

“A positive we can take though from the second half was that we were very dominant.”

Wilmering is part of a brigade of youngsters head coach Carl Robinson has thrown into the ring this season.

For the full-back, it’s all about learning from the environment around him and taking his chances.

“It’s very inspiring to see so many youngsters getting minutes,” said Wilmering.

“The gaffa is not afraid to play young players, there’s so much to learn and I’m really eager to learn.

“The more games I play, the more I will definitely improve.”

Looking ahead to tonight’s game against Melbourne City, it’s another must-win clash for the Wanderers to build some momentum during this busy period.

For the Red & Black, it will be important to execute Robinson’s plan to secure all three points.

“City have a lot of pace on the wings and with Craig Noone, he has a great left foot on him,” said Wilmering.

“All around the park, they have a lot of good players but we’ll see tonight.

“Hopefully the plan works, but it’s up to us players to execute it so that we can get a good result.”
