A-Leagues talent on target but Australia’s U18’s suffer last-gasp loss to England

A-Leagues pair Max Caputo and Marcus Younis both scored but Australia Under-18s conceded a 90th-minute goal to lose to England 3-2 at the FPF Sub-18 Tournament in Lisbon.

Australia were beaten 4-2 by Portugal in their opening match, having opened the scoring but Trevor Morgan’s side had to rally against England on Sunday.

England raced out to a 2-0 lead inside 18 minutes thanks to a quick-fire double from Crystal Palace forward Zach Marsh.

However, Melbourne City’s Caputo reduced the deficit a minute later after club teammate Emin Durakovic picked off a backpass and squared it to the Australian forward to tap into an empty net.

Australia went into the interval level thanks to Western Sydney Wanderers’ Younis, who equalised on the stroke of half-time.

Younis beat England goalkeeper Jonathan Macauley to the ball, turned and composed himself before slotting home the leveller.

The Young Lions had the final say however as substitute Adrian Blake scored in the final minute of regulation.
