The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers have today announced a one-year contract extension for assistant coach Andrés Carrasco.
Carrasco joined Tony Popovic’s coaching staff during the off-season and has added significant expertise in his short time with the club.
The UEFA Pro Licence holder has proved a popular figure in the Wanderers backroom staff working daily with the Hyundai A-League squad and offering advice and demonstrations to coaches at all levels of the club.
Having previously coached in Spain, Georgia and Angola, Carrasco said he adjusted well to Australia and settled in quickly.
Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas was pleased Carrasco would remain with the Club moving forward.
“We are thrilled that Andres has extended his time with us and will continue his working great relationship with our head Coach Tony Popovic,” said Tsatsimas
“From the outset he has fit in well with our club culture and the playing group and we are very proud of the backroom staff that we have assembled, of which he is an intricate part.”
Carrasco summed up his extension in two words – “it’s perfect”.
“When I arrived I didn’t know the staff, I didn’t know the club, I didn’t know the city but everything was perfect in the first month,” said Carrasco.
“The expectation on this season and next season is a very high. This is a very good project and to be involved in this is fantastic for me. It’s a very good chance to prove myself and if I can also add my experience to the Club then it’s perfect.
“I don’t focus on qualifying for the Champions League or winning the Championship, I focus on every day; we are working, trying to improve step-by-step, every game and every round. If we keep following the path we are on we will have a nice future.”
