We take a look at our Quarter Final opponent’s journey in the 2017 Westfield FFA Cup.

Blacktown City began their 2017 Westfield FFA Cup journey in Round 4 with a confident 6-0 thrashing of Kirrawee Kangaroos.

A hat-trick by Mitch Mallia as well as goals from Yuta Konagaya, James Andrew and Adolph Joudakpo sealed the win for the Tooongabbie team.

Round 5 saw Mallia continue his fantastic form with FFA Cup hero Danny Choi also getting on the scoresheet to snatch a 2-1 victory over Lokomotiv Cove.

The following two rounds saw Blacktown City defeat Mt Druitt Town Rangers 2-1 and Bulli FC 3-0, progressing them through to the Westfield FFA Cup’s Round of 32.

Blacktown City drew Hyundai A-League side Central Coast Mariners in the Round of 32 with Blacktown’s Mallia, Matthew Lewis, and Zach Cairncross all set to line up against their former club.

Within the first 20 minutes, Blacktown had already scored two goals by former Wanderer Joey Gibbs and Giorgio Speranza putting the pressure on the Mariners to deliver or get knocked out of the Westfield FFA Cup.

Despite Central Coast fighting back with a double from Kwabena Appiah-Kubi, the Mariners were left outclassed by Gibbs who completed his brace.

Blacktown City continued their journey in the 2017 Westfield FFA Cup and drew fellow NPL side Apia Leichhardt Tigers in the Round of 16.

Gibb’s continued his fantastic Cup run and for the second Westfield FFA Cup match in a row, scored a double, with teammate Mallia also scoring to secure a 3-1 win.

The victory resulted in Blacktown progressing to the Quarter Finals, a feat they have previously achieved in last year’s edition of the Cup.

Last year they were knocked out of the Cup by Sydney FC and this year they will face neighbours, the Western Sydney Wanderers.
