Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed the re-signing of defender Phillip Cancar until the end of the 2021/22 season.
A rock in the defence of the Wanderers National Premier League first team, Cancar was a consistent performer in the side’s campaign earlier this year.
The 20-year-old has made 10 appearances for the first grade side and scored his first goal, the winner in the Red & Black’s 3-2 battle against Mounties Wanderers.
Cancar, who more recently has been training with the A-League Men’s side this pre-season said he was enjoying learning at the club.
“Training has been good, learning every day especially with the new boys in my position like captain Rhys Williams,” said Cancar.
“It gives me a lot of confidence, when you have players around you and a manager that believes in young players to go out and play with confidence.
“Everyone’s mentality is just to win and we want to win it this season.
“It’s a very serious conversation, we all talk about it and I think we’re ready. I think we’re more involved as a team this year and everyone is bonding together very well.
“Personally, I just want to play and have fun. I just want to play in as many games as I can.”
Head coach Carl Robinson praised Cancar’s development.
“Phillip is a player that we have kept a close eye on during his development in the Wanderers system over the last year,” said Robinson.
“Phillip played an integral role and was a strong player in our National Premier League squad and we look forward to watching him continue to grow.
“He (Phillip) has worked extremely hard in the off-season and pre-season and we are excited to see him take the next step in his development.”
