A Zac Sapsford hat-trick has ensured our FNSW League One side returned to winning ways with a 4-0 win over Bonnyrigg White Eagles at Wanderers Football Park.
The former Sydney striker’s first goals for the club, along with a late goal from captain Dean Pelekanos, saw the club rise back to the top of the table.
After a tight first 10 minutes, the game came to life when Sapsford scored two goals in the space of two minutes.
The first came in the 15th minute when after a brilliant team move, an outside the foot finish from the striker left the Bonnyrigg keeper rooted to the spot.
And just two minutes later, Sapsford capitalised off a spill from a Simmons cross to tap the ball in from close range.
He had two more chances to grab his hat-trick before the break, but he was denied firstly by a good save from Michale Figueira, then by the offside flag when he found the net just before half-time.
After the break, George Antonis’ shot from distance was deflected wide, before Sapsford was thwarted again by an acrobatic save.
But he would not be denied his hat-trick as he received an Antonis lay-off, and he duly lobbed the ball over the despairing keeper into the corner of the net in the 76th minute.
Substitute Aiden Mostofi almost got himself on the scoresheet when his powerful drive grazed the top of the crossbar, before Jack Gibson made a great save to preserve his clean sheet.
The scoring would be rounded off by captain Pelekanos in the 89th minute; the centre-back found himself high up the pitch, and his composed side-footed finish from the top of the box left Figueira with no chance of saving it.
The performance and result was the perfect response to losing their unbeaten home run last week, the side is at Wanderers Football Park once again next week as they take on Hakoah Sydney City East.
