The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL Women’s side suffered their first defeat since Round 3, going down 3-1 to Bulls FC Academy.
It took just four minutes for the Bulls to open the scoring, with Petria Phillips capitalising on a turnover from Chelsea Barton as she attempted to dribble out of defence. Phillips struck from distance, sending the ball into the top right corner.
Isabella Coco-Di Sipio then doubled the Bulls lead with a deflected shot in the 23rd minute of the game. The Wanderers up until this point had struggled for possession and found themselves defending for a lot of this game.
This was until Brooklyn Hudson put in a fantastic cross for Miriam Zumaya who dribbled past the Bulls defence to walk it into an empty net.
The Bulls Winger fired a shot from the acutest of angles to hit the post just before half time, before Zumaya saw her attempt go above the bar as we headed into the break.
In the 57th minute, the two Bulls goalscorers combined for the third, with Coco Di-Sipio threading a sliding ball in behind to find Petria Phillips, who calmly doubled the Bulls’ lead.
The Red and Black found some success with balls over the top but were unable to capitalise on their limited chances, as the match ended 3-1 in favour of Bulls FC Academy.
The Wanderers pushed for a way back into the game, but the Bulls proved too strong, leaving the Red and Black to suffer their first defeat since Round 3.
The Wanderers will travel to the Sydney University Training Ground on Sunday to face a Sydney Uni side struggling for form. With only two points separating them from the bottom, Sydney Uni will be eager to avoid an early-season relegation battle.
