The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 1 side returned to winning ways on Saturday afternoon, producing a disciplined and determined performance to record a 2-1 victory over Sydney Olympic at Wanderers Football Park.
With the Red & Black eager to respond after a difficult run of results, the hosts started with intent and were rewarded inside the opening quarter of an hour.
The breakthrough came in the 11th minute when Emile Katrib burst down the right wing and delivered a dangerous ball across the face of goal. Alaat Abdul-Rahman made no mistake, arriving at the back post to slide home the opener and cap off an impressive team move. Olympic found a response only minutes later through Sebastian Kukucka, ensuring the contest remained evenly poised heading into the latter stages of the first half.
The Wanderers refused to let the setback disrupt their rhythm, continuing to create promising opportunities through their fluid attacking play. Abdul-Rahman came within inches of restoring the lead after combining well with Lachlan Sattout inside the area.
The decisive moment arrived midway through the second half.
Following sustained attacking pressure, the Wanderers were rewarded when Lachlan Sattout found space inside the penalty area and calmly finished beyond Kurto to put the Red & Black back in front.
As Sydney Olympic committed numbers forward late in the match, the Wanderers’ defensive resolve was tested. Sinnott rose to the occasion with a series of outstanding saves, denying Peter Grozos before producing two more crucial stops deep into stoppage time to preserve the lead.
The composed defensive display ensured the Wanderers collected all three points in front of their home supporters, providing a deserved reward for a performance built on resilience, attacking intent and composure in key moments.
The victory provides an important boost as the Wanderers continue their National Premier Leagues NSW campaign, with the young squad showing the character required to respond under pressure and close out a hard-fought result.
