NPL Preview: Canterbury v Wanderers

On Saturday night, the Western Sydney Wanderers will be looking to put pressure on the top three sides in the NPL 2 when they take on Canterbury Bankstown at The Crest Atheltic Centre.

Canterbury are currently bottom of the league, however, the Wanderers can’t afford to take them lightly.

When the Red & Black last played them in Round 7, goals from Daniel WIlmering and Mohamed Adam could only secure a 2-2 draw.

Canterbury’s main thread is Zak Elrich (Wanderers Hyundai A-League player Tarek Elrich’s cousin) who has scored six times in his last seven games.

For the Red & Black, goalkeeper Jack Greenwood will be aiming to build on last week’s performance against Rydalmere Lions, where he made some excellent saves.

Greenwood played junior football for Spirit FC and APIA Leichhardt Tigers, before joining the Red & Black in 2018.

The keeper was part of the Wanderers squad that reached the 2019 Foxtel Y-League Grand Final and Hyundai A-League debut against Central Coast Mariners in April.

At the other end of the park, Jarrod Carluccio continues to impress in attack. Carluccio has become a regular starter in the Wanderers NPL first grade this season following three successful years with our younger age groups.

The forward, who has played for the Australian Schoolboys team, captained the U20s side to a Grand Final victory last year.

This was his third Grand Final victory with the Wanderers Academy after winning with the U18s in 2016 and U20 in 2017.
