The ladder leading young Wanderers begin a testing run of form on Sunday afternoon as they face St George City FA at Wanderers Football Park.
Western Sydney have blown away the NPL NSW competition to begin the 2024 season, winning eight of their nine games to hold a four point lead at the top of the table.
Their last match against Manly United saw them record their biggest win of the season, as they won 5-0 away from home, with Marcus Younis scoring an early goal of the season contender with a phenomenal bicycle kick.
Nathaneal Blair, Aydan Hammond and Adam Bugarija – who scored a brace – also got amongst the goals as the Wanderers took their goal tally to a staggering 32 goals, with an average of well over three goals a game.
Coach Andrew Christiansen will also be pleased the side kept a second clean sheet of the season as he looks to blend defensive solidity with their blistering attacking form.
A real test of their credentials begins this weekend as they face five of the top seven teams in the competition in consecutive weeks.
St George City have had a solid start to their NPL NSW campaign, sitting in sixth on the table with 14 points, though they have played a game less than the teams around them.
After an impressive maiden season in the NPL NSW last season, where they finished fifth, they built on an already strong squad led by captain Tarik Ercan with the signings of star striker Jason Romero and strong defender Soloman Monahan-Vaiika from relegated Mt Druitt.
They have had suspension issues plague their campaign to an extent, with Ercan, Presley Ortiz and Matthew Keremelevski all missing last week’s win over Marconi due to suspension.
Ercan will be back in the side this week, posing a test for the likes of Ryley Hollingdale and Alex Badolato in midfield.
St George won both clashes between the sides last season, with a 4-2 win at home early in the season, before holding off a late Wanderers fightback in the return fixture to win 2-1 on the road.
