The Wanderers preserved their place at the top of the NPL NSW table with a 4-2 win over St George FC on Saturday night.
Captain Zac Sapsford led the way with a double, whilst Alex Badolato and Nathaneal Blair also scored as the Wanderers came from behind twice at Wanderers Football Park.
Despite many of their senior players returning after missing the last match, it was St George who started quickly as captain Troy Danaskos opened the scoring after just five minutes with a deflected strike from the edge of the area.
The Saints had barely regrouped before the Wanderers equalised, when Badolato’s cross curled massively in the air and went in at the near post, having caught out goalkeeper Daniel Axford.
The Wanderers almost hit the front when Sapsford had a shot well saved and Marcus Younis’ follow up was blocked well by a defender, before St George hit the front again as Conor Quilligan scored with a low shot into the bottom corner.
Once again a Wanderers side full of confidence after a good start to the season hit back almost instantly, as Anthony Pantazopoulos sent a wicked cross into the box that Sapsford was able to side-foot home with a first time finish.
Sapsford then gave the Wanderers the lead just before half time, when he turned home a cross from close range.
St George almost equalised 10 minutes after half time, but Taiga Harper pulled off a brilliant double save to deny them, and it would prove crucial as just a minute later Blair got in behind the defence and calmly slotted the ball home to score the fourth of the game and his eighth of the season.
The Wanderers sit two points ahead of Marconi, and travel to face Manly United away from home on Sunday evening.
