Wanderers sign former Premier League midfielder Mutch

Jordon Mutch

Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed the six-month deal of midfielder Jordon Mutch for the A-League 2020/21 season.

The midfielder joins the club from a recent stint at top-flight Norwegian side Aalesunds FK.

The former Crystal Palace, Birmingham City, Cardiff City, and Watford midfielder brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the Wanderers having won the Championship and League Cup, as well as a runner up for the FA Cup and Canadian Championship.

Mutch has amassed over 200 professional appearances and has played close to 80 matches in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old will link up for a second time with head coach Carl Robinson who he played under at Vancouver Whitecaps.

ā€œComing to the Western Sydney Wanderers is an opportunity to work again with, in my opinion, the best manager Iā€™ve worked under and to play for the biggest club in Australia is exciting,ā€ said Mutch.

ā€œI have learned a lot from the different cultures, leagues, and playing under many top managers which I have gained a lot of experience from. Itā€™s taught me how much I love the game and to stay dedicated to it as itā€™s only a short career.

ā€œI have watched the A-League here in the UK and also played in Asia in the Asian Champions League so I have seen a lot of matches and I expect it to be a very competitive league as there are many good teams in it.

ā€œI had the opportunity to work with Robbo (head coach Carl Robinson) at Vancouver Whitecaps. He brings out the best in people as a player and a person, I am delighted to get the opportunity to play under him again.ā€

Head coach Carl Robinson said Jordon brings another layer of experience and quality to the Wanderers squad.

ā€œJordon brings experience and quality having played at a high level to show and will show some of our younger players the levels that are needed day in and day out,ā€ said Robinson.

ā€œHe is a leader by the way he trains and plays and will fit into the squad very well with his character as we continue to influence the culture and environment.ā€

Mutch will link up with the squad at the end of the month following his arrival in Australia and mandatory quarantine in Sydney.
