Zumaya progression through pathway continues with two-year scholarship deal

Western Sydney Wanderers FC are pleased to announce that promising forward Miriam Zumaya has signed a two-year scholarship contract with the club’s Ninja A-League team, continuing her progression through the Wanderers elite development pathway and strengthening the club’s commitment to developing the next generation of Western Sydney talent.

The 17-year-old attacker has risen through the Wanderers system, progressing from the club’s development programs into the senior environment, where she has already made an impression with four appearances during her breakthrough season. Her performances have showcased her pace, intelligence in the final third, and maturity beyond her years.

Zumaya’s development journey has been highlighted by her involvement in the club’s Future Wander Women Program in 2024, where she was awarded the Clare Hunt Award for her professionalism, attitude, and potential – further reinforcing her status as one of the club’s most exciting young talents emerging through the pathway.

A proud Western Sydney local, Zumaya’s transition from grassroots football through to the A-Leagues squad reflects the strength and success of the Wanderers’ elite player pathway and the club’s ongoing investment in developing young female footballers.

Head coach Geoff Abrahams said Miriam has earned her opportunity through her professionalism, attitude, and rapid development within the club’s pathway system.

“Miriam has been one of the most exciting young players to come through our system in recent years. Her attitude, willingness to learn, and natural attacking instincts have allowed her to transition into senior football seamlessly.”

“She’s earned this opportunity. The most impressive thing about Miriam is her desire to improve every single day, and that’s exactly what we look for in a Wanderers player.”

“This is just the beginning for her. We believe she has all the attributes to become a long-term contributor at this level, and we’re excited to continue supporting her development over the next two seasons.”

Miriam Zumaya said she is proud to continue her journey with the Wanderers and is focused on becoming a consistent contributor, earning more minutes, and helping the team push for finals football over the next two seasons.

“Growing up in Western Sydney, my dream was always to play for the Wanderers and represent the area. I had the opportunity last season, and that was truly a blessing.”

“But something that was most effective for me to re-sign was the club culture. It’s very supportive and positive around me and about the stage.”

“I just want to develop. And I feel at this time in my journey that this club is the right club for me.”

“My aim for the next two seasons is just to be a consistent player, get more minutes in the game, and hopefully play finals football next season.”

“I want to thank my family. If it wasn’t for them I would not be in the situation I’m in, as well as all the coaches for putting their trust in me.”
