Iraq defeated Bahrain 6-1 to win the inaugural Wanderers Asian Community Cup at Marconi Stadium on Saturday December 20, 2014.
The first half was played at a fast pace but neither could convert before half time with the score at 0-0.
Cheered on by a big crowd of community fans the Iraq team came alive in the second half scoring six goals to comprehensively win the final.
Iraqi goal scorers were Carlos Enwiya (3), Wandi Jajaw (1), Andy Matloub (1) and Niraman Kanoun (1).
The man of the match was Carlos Enwiya from Iraq.
Prior to the game, both teams observed a minutes silence for the victims of the Martin Place siege.
Players from both Iraq and Bahrain will be presented their medals at the Western Sydney Wanderers home game against Melbourne Victory on January 6 including a victory lap around Pirtek Stadium.
The Western Sydney Wanderers Asian Community Cup was organised by the Western Sydney Wanderers FC with support from the Local Organising Committee of the AFC Asian Cup 2015, Club Marconi and Red Elephant Projects.
Western Sydney Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas was delighted with how the tournament ran.
“Congratulations to Iraq on an outstanding performance and also to Bahrain who never gave in,” he said.
“We are delighted to announce that the inaugural All Stars team and both Grand Finalists will be presented their medals at our home game on January 6.”
