NPL 1 Men’s Wrap: Wanderers see past 10 Man Mount Druitt Town Rangers in 2-1 win

The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 1 Men’s side defeated a ten-man Mount Druitt Town Rangers 2-1 at Popondetta Park, extending their unbeaten run to three games for the first time this season.

The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 1 side turned over a halftime one goal deficit to come back and defeat the Mount Druitt Town Rangers in a win that sees them begin to create separation from the bottom of the table.

The Wanderers’ started with Awan Lual, Noah Peacock and Alaat Abdul-Rahman for the first time this season, as Aabdul-Rahamn played in an attacking midfielder role instead of his usual striker position.

This change had almost immediate impact with an early Lual cross almost capitalised on by Edmun Haddad with an acrobatic attempt in the third minute.

That same combination almost combined for the opener half an hour later, but the attempt was cleared off the line.

Although it would be Rangers debutant Lachlan Vasiliou who would open the scoring in the late stages of the first half after taking advantage of the open space left by Ricky Fransen following a run into midfield.

Moments later the Rangers would see Pedrinho receive a second yellow for dissent. This saw the home side go down to ten men just before the interval.

To Mount Druitt’s dismay, it only took the Wanderers nine minutes to take advantage of the numbers, as Abdul Rahman made a fantastic run towards the by-line ro play in Lual for the equaliser.

The Wanderers would find the winner with twenty minutes to go, Richard Nkomo placing a cross at the back post for Haddad to convert.

Lual would have the chance to put the game away, but a stretching save denied the striker of his second.

The win moves the Wanderers further away from the relegation zone as they prepare to return home to face a struggling Sydney Olympic. A victory could lift them to 13th place, just one point behind the Belmore side, and extend their unbeaten run to an unprecedented four games.
