The Wanderers NPL Women’s side continued their strong NPL NSW Women’s campaign on Sunday afternoon, securing a dramatic 1-0 victory over the Illawarra Stingrays thanks to a stoppage-time breakthrough at Wanderers Football Park.
Having built momentum throughout the season and established themselves among the competition’s leading sides, The Wanderers once again showcased the patience and determination that has become a feature of their performances in 2026.
The Wanderers controlled much of the opening half and looked threatening whenever they moved into the attacking third. Mia Nataly was heavily involved from the outset, creating problems for the Stingrays defence with her movement and willingness to run in behind.
Despite the home side’s dominance, the visitors remained difficult to break down. Amelia Bennett was influential in midfield as the Wanderers looked to dictate possession, while Savannah Murray came agonisingly close to opening the scoring when her long-range free-kick rattled the crossbar.
The Wanderers continued to push after the break and created a number of promising opportunities, only to be denied by a combination of desperate defending and an inspired performance from Stingrays goalkeeper Kiara Rochaix.

As the match entered its closing stages, the Red and Black refused to abandon their attacking intent. With the visitors pinned deep inside their own half, the Wanderers continued to search for the breakthrough that their performance deserved.
Their reward finally arrived in stoppage time.
Amy Barker delivered a dangerous ball into the area in the 92nd minute, with the cross ultimately finding its way into the back of the net to hand the Wanderers a dramatic late winner and spark celebrations among the home side.
While the decisive moment came in the dying stages, the result was a reflection of the Wanderers’ control throughout the contest. Their willingness to remain patient, continue attacking and trust their game plan ultimately proved the difference.
The victory extends the Wanderers’ impressive run of form and adds another valuable three points to their growing tally as they continue their push near the top end of the NPL NSW Women’s ladder.
