The Western Sydney Wanderers are set to return to Wanderers Football Park this Sunday evening, ready to host the Central Coast Mariners in what promises to be a high-intensity Ninja A-League Women clash.
After a fiercely contested 0-0 draw against Sydney FC in the Sydney Derby, the Wander Women have shown that they are capable of matching the intensity and skill of any top-tier side.
With a combination of solid defensive organisation and attacking creativity, head coach Geoff Abrahams’ squad is ready to use home advantage to full effect as they aim to secure another important result.
The Sydney Derby highlighted the team’s growing cohesion and resilience. From Sham Khamis’ commanding presence in goal to Ella Buchanan’s last-ditch defensive interventions, the Wander Women proved they can withstand pressure while still creating dangerous opportunities in attack.
While the draw may have left some points on the table, it also demonstrated that the Wander Women are building a strong foundation as the season progresses.
“Yeah, look, we’re building to something pretty good, I think. I was happy with the performance. We played very well,” said Abrahams.
There was a little spill where Sydney had some good chances as well, but I was really happy with the control of the game that we had.
“That said, we have to move past being happy with draws. The nil-nil was okay in the context of everything, given the history that everyone keeps talking about, but that doesn’t bother me. I’m not content with the draw – I think we should have won it.
“That’s the way we ought to be thinking now.”

Looking ahead to Sunday’s clash, Abrahams is mindful of the challenge the Mariners present.
The Central Coast come off a commanding 4-1 F3 Derby win over Newcastle Jets, with Annalise Rasmussen netting twice and debutant Eliza Familton making an instant impact.
“They’re a good team. We played them in a friendly earlier in pre-season, and that was a tough, close game,” said Abrahams.
“They had a really good win on the weekend, scoring goals – they’ve scored more than we have. But I think our football has been building week by week. We’ve got a lot to offer, and on the weekend, we’re going to continue to improve. It’ll be a real test for them, and I’m looking forward to a good game.”
With the Wander Women returning to Wanderers Football Park, the stage is set for a high-intensity clash where every moment will count.
Building on their strong showing in the Sydney Derby and facing a dangerous Mariners side, Geoff Abrahams’ squad will look to combine skill, resilience, and teamwork to turn opportunities into goals and make home advantage count.
Sunday night promises passion, pace, and plenty of drama and the Wander Women are determined to deliver a performance their members and fans won’t forget.
