Western Sydney Wanderers FC have returned to the winners’ circle in emphatic fashion, securing a commanding 4-0 victory over Macarthur FC at Campbelltown Stadium tonight.
The Wanderers wasted no time stamping their authority on the contest, racing to a three-goal lead before the break through Steven Ugarkovic, Bozhidar Kraev and Ryan Fraser, before Brandon Borrello added the finishing touch midway through the second half to complete a ruthless performance.
It took just six minutes for the Red & Black to break the deadlock. A slick passage of play down the left saw Alex Gersbach deliver a precise ball into the path of Ugarkovic, who made no mistake in guiding his finish beyond the goalkeeper to hand the Wanderers the perfect start.
Buoyed by the early breakthrough, the Wanderers continued to press with intent and intensity. The hosts thought they had found a response shortly after, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside, allowing the Wanderers to maintain control of proceedings.
The second goal arrived soon after, with Kraev capping off another purposeful attacking movement. The midfielder showed composure inside the area to clinically dispatch his finish and double Western Sydney’s advantage as the Wanderers’ dominance began to tell on the scoreboard.
On the stroke of half-time, the Wanderers struck again. Capitalising on a turnover high up the pitch, Fraser reacted quickest to seize his opportunity and delicately lift the ball into the net, sending the Red & Black into the sheds with a commanding three-goal buffer.
Western Sydney continued to manage the contest professionally after the restart, remaining organised defensively while threatening in transition. Their fourth goal came in the 70th minute and was one of the highlights of the night. Dylan Scicluna produced a driving run and pinpoint delivery to find Borrello, who calmly converted to seal the result and round out a clinical team display.
The victory sees the Wanderers claim an important three points and build valuable momentum heading into next weekend’s clash with Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium.
After a statement performance on the road, the Red & Black will look to carry their confidence into the final stretch of the campaign.
