The Wanderers were able to rescue a point following mounting attacking pressure in what was an evenly contested fixture against St George City at Wanderers Football Park.
After suffering defeat in their most recent outing at home to a high flying Sydney United 58 side, the Wanderers came out the gates against St George City full of attacking intent, looking to get back to the winning ways that preceded the result of the round prior.
The Red and Black were first in the fixture to register a shot on target within the opening eight minutes of the tie, Julian Kop curling a first-time shot on goal that was met by a diving save from St George City shot-stopper Jack Kenny.
A mounting Wanderers attack meant that Kenny would soon be called upon again when a Jesse Cameron shot deflected off a St George City defender fell to Alaat Abdul-Rahman with a one on one opportunity forcing a parrying save.
Both the Wanderers and the visiting St George City side went forward in waves of attacking possession for the duration of the fixture. The visitors most notable chance of the half being a Hiroto Dimoto header placed just wide of the right post in the dying moments of the opening half.
Despite the many attacking efforts of the Red and Black, It was the visitors that broke the deadlock not long into the second half when Jorn Pedersen turned to score the opener, placing his shot in the top right corner of the Wanderers goal.
A barrage of Wanderers attack followed, with the Wanderers retaining a lion’s share of possession in the moments following the opener. Each passage progressing down the right flank as Bradley Marszal created multiple opportunities through crosses into the area.
The persistence in attack from the Wanderers paid off as substitute Emile Katrib made an enterprising run down the right flank, crossing a ball into the area that was brought down by Georgio Hassarati before being struck by Julian Kop and falling to Jesse Cameron who slotted away the equaliser in the 80th minute of the fixture.
What followed was a frantic close to the fixture, with chances on both ends of the pitch following as the Wanderers and visiting St George City looked to find a winner. Despite the efforts, there wasn’t one to be found, as the tie ended at the stalemate.
Although the Red and Black were unable to get ahead in the tie, the Wanderers can walk away proud of the performance shown. An improvement in result from the week previous and heading back toward the form the Wanderers ended last month in. Promising signs as the side looks toward what comes next.
