NPL Women’s Semi Final Preview: Bulls FC Academy v Wanderers

The Wanderers begin their Championship Series campaign on Sunday afternoon with a Semi-Final showdown against Premiers Bulls FC Academy at Northbridge Oval.

After securing fourth place during the regular season, the Red and Black now have the opportunity to continue animpressive campaign by earning a place in the Grand Final at Jubilee Stadium.

The Wanderers have exceeded expectations throughout 2026, holding a position inside the Top Four for much of the season despite enduring a difficult period midway through the campaign.

They responded strongly during the run home, losing only once across their final six matches to ensure their place in the finals.

Alyssa Ng Saad will be central to their attacking threat after finishing second in the Golden Boot race with 13 goals. Talia Younis, Alyssa McKenzie and Miriam Zumaya have also provided important contributions in the final third, giving the Wanderers several avenues to goal.

The challenge will be finding a way through a Bulls defence that recorded 13 clean sheets during the regular season.

Bulls FC Academy enter the Semi-Final following another outstanding campaign, securing their second consecutive Premiership while going unbeaten across their final 22 matches.

They finished with the competition’s strongest attack and a goal difference of +43, with Amber Luchtmeijer and Olivia Vanderlaan both reaching double figures for the season.

Despite the Bulls’ impressive record, the Wanderers have already demonstrated that they can cause the Premiersproblems. The first meeting between the teams finished in a 1-1 draw, while their second produced one of the most dramatic matches of the season.

After falling three goals behind, the Wanderers fought back to level the contest before the Bulls struck twice late to claim a 5-3 victory.

That performance showed the attacking quality and resilience within this young Wanderers squad, although they will need to remain disciplined for the entire 90 minutes against an opponent capable of punishing any lapse.

Beyond Sunday’s result, reaching the Championship Series highlights the considerable progress made by this young Wanderers squad. After finishing their inaugural NPL Women’s NSW season outside the finals in 2025, the group has developed significantly across the past 12 months and established itself among the competition’s leading sides. A victory over the Premiers would represent another major step forward and provide the clearest indication yet of just how far the squad has come.

The Key Decider: Staying in the Contest

The Wanderers’ ability to stay compact defensively while making the most of their opportunities on the counterattack could determine the contest. If they can contain the Bulls early and allow their attacking players to grow into the match, they have the quality to challenge the Premiers and book their place at Jubilee Stadium.

With a place in the Grand Final on the line, the Wanderers will travel to Northbridge Oval determined to extend their season and produce a memorable Semi-Final result.
