St Joseph’s Primary School in Schofields has been crowned the Wanderers School of the Year after taking out the 2017 version of the competition.
Now in its third year, the Wanderers School of the Year is a points-based competition that encourages students to engage with Wanderers club and community programs centred on healthy lifestyles, education and football.
St Joseph’s were the deserving champions this year, coming out on top and earning the right to hold a massive Wanderers expo at the school.
On Monday afternoon, the Wanderers Hyundai A-League squad together with some members of the Powerchair team visited St Joseph’s, where a number of activations were held throughout the day.
St Joseph’s teacher Daniel Parnis said it was a special day for the school.
“It’s a great opportunity for our school. A lot of the kids love the Wanderers, we’ve got a lot of Members at our school,” said Parnis.
“It’s great for those kids who don’t get an opportunity to go and see the Wanderers or meet their heroes.
“When teams like the Wanderers come out, it’s fantastic because the kids get to meet their heroes, they get to see them beyond just being on the field, beyond being on their TV and see that they’re actually real people that they can aspire to be like.”
