Western Sydney meets Brisbane as the Wanderers welcome the Roar to Glen Willow Regional Stadium for Round 4 of the Hyundai A-League.
Saturday’s match marks the first time a Hyundai A-League fixture will be played in the Mid-Western region and looking back at past fixtures between the two sides, it will certainly be one to remember.
John Aloisi’s men come into the match after a recent disappointing trip to NIB Stadium in Perth, where they were defeated 1-0 by Glory.
The Roar have brought together a strong attacking squad for this season’s campaign with Brazilian striker “the slippery fish” Henrique returning for another season at the club, as well as new signings Danish Tobias Mikkelsen, Adam Taggart and Stefan Mauk.
The Red & Black will also need to keep an eye on Spanish mid elder Alex Lopez, who is raring to go after a strong European season with Celta Vigo.
The Wanderers, have similarly built a strong squad for this year’s campaign. New recruits, Germans Alexander Baumjohann and Patrick Ziegler, as well as a number of youngsters, have stepped up to the plate to kick-off what has been an entertaining start to the Wanderers’ Hyundai A-League season.
The Red & Black will be raring to go, heading into Saturday’s match after an impressive 3-0 victory against Wellington Phoenix at Westpac Stadium.
Wanderers Alexander Baumjohann, Oriol Riera and Jordan O’Doherty all got on the scoresheet on Saturday night and there is no doubt that they’ll be looking to impress again come Saturday.
The Wanderers will also be bolstered by the return of their head coach Markus Babbel on the sidelines, who served a one-match ban following the Sydney Derby.
Despite its controversies, the Wanderers had had a solid start to their season and have earned four points from a difficult three opening fixtures away from home.
Finals football was on the line when the Wanderers previously met with the Roar at ANZ Stadium in early April and the Wanderers fought for three points, securing a 3-0 win over their opponents.
In the 22 meetings between the pair, the Wanderers have won eight games compared to the Roar’s seven, and the two teams can barely be separated by goal difference.
All in all, the match sets up a blockbuster Saturday night fixture that promises to be as high-pressure as any match we’ve seen so far in the two club’s history.
