The Western Sydney Wanderers FC are proud to support the Walk 4 Duchenne by the Save Our Sons foundation this week.

Save Our Sons Duchenne Foundation was founded in 2008 by Elie Nancy Eid following the diagnosis of their son Emilio with Duchenne and is now the peak body for Duchenne muscular dystrophy in Australia.

Duchenne is a genetic condition causing muscle weakness and wasting. Duchenne affects one in 3500 boys and in rare cases girls. Most children diagnosed with Duchenne require a wheelchair by their mid-teens and to date, no cure has been found.

Wanderers powerchair player Alex Scollard will be completing a 172km walk across six days between the 4th and 9th of March as part of the Walk 4 Duchenne.

“I personally suffer from a muscle wasting condition known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Unfortunately for me, there is no cure and this condition leaves no survivors,” said Scollard.

“However, with your help and support, you may be able to help us find a cure for this life-limiting condition.

“Your donation no matter how big or small will go a long way in making a difference in our lives today.”

Wanderers players will also be proudly walking alongside Alex as he aims to complete the 172km journey.
