Wanderer Daniel Georgievski has cast aside the connection with his former Hyundai A-League club, declaring Friday night’s game against Melbourne Victory is all about the “Wanderers badge”.
While paying respect for the Victorian club where he won the Premiers Plate-Championship double, Georgievski said he has a job to do with the Wanderers and that is his only focus heading into the match.
“I did spend three good seasons with Victory a few years back (before joining Newcastle Jets) so a bit of my heart is there but, at the same time, my job is for the Wanderers and that is my main focus,” said the wingback.
“It is just another game we have to win and we are going to try to put in our best performance there.
“Yeah, there are a few close friends there but, in football, you always (end up) play against a (former) teammate down the track. That is none of my concern. I’ll speak to them before or after the game, but during the game it’s all about the (Wanderers) badge.”
PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE
Georgievski was delighted the Wanderers got off to a winning start in the opening game of the season against the Central Coast Mariners at Wanderland last Saturday but admitted he is unsure about how long it will take for the team to click fully.
“There is no real time frame, I guess,” Georgievski said when asked how long it will take for the team to gel properly.
“You can’t put a figure like two or three games that will happen 100 percent
“There were a few debuts the other day and pretty much 80 percent of the team is new. Sometimes you click straight away sometimes it doesn’t happen. As long as we are all going in the right direction that’s pretty much all we can do.
“At the same time, we are just aiming to get there and once that happens then obviously it will be what the boss really wants.”
GEORGIEVSKI’S LITTLE TOUCH TO WINGBACK ROLE
Georgievski added that he is relishing the wingback role at the Wanderers which utilizes his attacking skills.
“The boss saw it, so that is what he has put on the pitch. For me, whatever job it is, I will try and learn it and try to make it mine,” said Georgievski.
“There are roles and rules that you have to do in that position and I’ll put my own little side touch to it and hopefully it works. Thus far it has worked in the pre-season and we will see how it goes during the season. I am enjoying it.”
