Western Sydney Wanderers FC are delighted to confirm that Westfield W-League forward Kristen Hamilton has broken the record for most goals scored in a season at the club.
The star striker has also created history in becoming the first player from the Red & Black to win the Westfield W-League Golden Boot.
The American’s first half brace in the 3-2 win over Perth Glory on Saturday night not only helped the Wander Women secure their berth in the Finals for the very first time, but took Hamilton’s tally to seven for the regular season and ensured that she shared the top billing as the league’s leading goalscorer.
In a stunning set of firsts for the Dean Heffernan-coached W-League side, Hamilton found herself in a four-way tie with Morgan Andrews (Perth Glory), Natasha Dowie (Melbourne Victory) and Remy Siemsen (Sydney FC).
The 27-year-old also became the first player to score a hat-trick for the club when she got all three goals in a 3-1 win over Brisbane Roar on 28 November.
Hamilton’s seven goals broke the club record for most goals (6) in a season previously shared by Catherine Cannuli, now assistant coach of the Westfield W-League side, and Katie Stengel.
It has been a remarkable season for Hamilton, who linked with the club on loan at the start of the season following a successful year with North Carolina Courage in the National Women’s Soccer League.
“The W-League is definitely a challenge, personally, in terms of the different role I normally play with North Carolina (in the NWSL). I am developing myself with more of a leadership and role model role as opposed to North Carolina, where I am almost in the background a little more so than here,” said Hamilton.
“I do enjoy it. It’s different, it’s another way to grow on and off the field. It’s been fun, a cool challenge and something I have embraced as best I can.
“As well, the club is fantastic, the set-up is amazing. It has been awesome and I could not have asked for any more.”
