Prendergast, who joined the Red & Black in early July, experienced his first game as Wanderer last night in some very testing conditions at Central Coast Stadium.
Despite the Red & Black not getting the result they were hoping for, Prendergast was still pleased to make his debut in the Hyundai A-League.
“It was a great first experience for me and it’s a shame we didn’t get all three points to be honest,” said Prendergast.
“We had a fair few chances at the end but I’m happy to get my debut in and at least get a point.”
A custodian of the NSW National Premier League competition, it has been a case of keeping the faith for Prendergast who for the last six seasons has been putting in the work to be noticed by a Hyundai A-League outfit.
“I always believed in myself but there were stages where it was hard – training on with Sydney and having a few sniffs from other clubs, but I just never got that chance to start,” reflected Prendergast.
“But I’m happy now to finally get my foot in the door, to get a start and make my Wanderers debut.”
It was a confident debut for the unorthodox shot-stopper who had earned the plaudits from Mark Bosnich after making a solid save from a long-range shot from the Mariners Danny De Silva.
“He (De Silva) nearly caught me out to be fair to him but I got there just in time,” said Prendergast.
“I was happy (with the performance) to be honest because the conditions were difficult at times there but we got a point out of it and that’s all I can ask.”
Prendergast and the Wanderers will now have a short turn-around for their next match this Friday night against Wellington Phoenix at Bankwest Stadium. Catch the match live from 7:30pm on FOX SPORTS, Kayo and the My Football Live App.
