The Wander Women are set to play in their first match in the nation’s capital on Saturday night.
In a newly scheduled fixture, the Red & Black will be making the trip to the nation’s capital on Saturday night to face Canberra United.
It is the first time the two sides will meet this season after border restrictions between the two states eased.
Canberra United will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to the 2020/21 season after snatching a late draw against Perth Glory.
A frenetic final ten minutes of play between Canberra and Perth saw both sides score within a minute, as United canceled out Perth’s opener to secure a 1-1 draw at Viking Park on Sunday afternoon.
In an otherwise uneventful contest highlighted by some excelled goalkeeper at either end, Perth looked to have snatched all three points when Elizabeth Anton scored in the 86th minute of play.
But just one minute later Canberra substitute Hayley Taylor-Young found an equaliser, blasting a strike off the post and in to earn her side a point in sweltering conditions in Viking Park.
Meanwhile, the Wanderers will be hoping to bounce back after a frustrating defeat to Newcastle Jets over the weekend.
Despite hoping to repeat the feats of their last meeting with the Jets at Wanderers Football Park, the Wander Women suffered a 4-1 loss to the home side.
Newcastle’s Lauren Allan gave the side a perfect start to the meeting by scoring a breakaway goal and doubled the lead with a close-range header after Georgia Yeoman-Dale resorted parity for the Wanderers with a scorcher from outside the box.
Tara Andrews added a third after pouncing on a goalkeeper error from Courtney Newbon before Gema Simon increased the deficit to three in the second half by darting behind the Wanderers defence and rounding Newbon in her first goal in four years.
It was a disappointing finish for Dean Heffernan’s side who were ontop for periods of the match but struggled to capitalise.
The Wander Women will need to get a result in Canberra to keep their Finals hopes alive this season and with Canberra steamrolling every side they’ve met so far, be ready for another tough contest.
