Western Sydney Wanderers forward Kosta Barbarouses has been selected in the New Zealand national football team’s 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026, as announced today by NZ Football.
The squad was unveiled at Eden Park in Auckland, the same venue where New Zealand secured their qualification in March 2025, marking a full-circle moment for the All Whites as they prepare for their return to football’s biggest stage.
Barbarouses, who has been a long-standing figure in the national setup, adds valuable experience to Darren Bazeley’s squad as New Zealand prepares for group stage matches against IR Iran, Egypt and Belgium across June 2026 in North America.
Head coach Darren Bazeley said the squad reflects a balanced blend of emerging talent and experienced internationals, selected to give New Zealand the best chance of competing in a challenging Group G campaign.
The All Whites will open their tournament against IR Iran on 16 June in Los Angeles, before facing Egypt in Vancouver on 22 June, and concluding their group stage against Belgium on 27 June.
For Barbarouses and his Wanderers teammates at Western Sydney Wanderers FC, the selection is a significant recognition ahead of the global tournament, as preparations intensify in the lead-up to kick-off.
