Fourth annual Sister Cities Shield Fixture

Sister Cities Shield

Western Sydney Wanderers FC will look to retain the Sister Cities Shield in today’s match against Wellington Phoenix at WIN Stadium.

The meeting in Wollongong will mark the fourth annual Sister Cities Shield fixture held between the Wanderers and Wellington after the partnership was struck back in 2018.

The Shield recognises the Sister Cities relationship between Blacktown City in Western Sydney and Porirua in Wellington.

In 1984 a formal sister cities agreement was signed to promote cultural and commercial ties between the two cities.

Over the last 35 years, there has been a wide range of activities covering sporting, education, culture, and the arts which have enhanced the experiences of both communities.

The first Hyundai A-League match celebrating the relationship between the two cities was in March 2018.

Since then both the Red & Black and Wellington have shared the honours of the Shield with the Wanderers looking to retain the Shield for a second season in a row when they travel to Wollongong today.
