Sunday afternoon promises an intriguing battle at CommBank Stadium as the Western Sydney Wanderers take on Western United in a clash with high stakes and plenty of history.

The two sides haven’t faced each other since way back in Round Two, when they played out a tightly contested 1-1 draw at Ironbark Fields. On that occasion, Brandon Borrello opened the scoring for the Wanderers with a well-taken goal, only for Hiroshi Ibusuki to equalise early in the second half and share the spoils.

While the result was arguably a fair one at the time, much has changed since then — and this time, the context couldn’t be more crucial. With just two regular season home games remaining, the Wanderers will be determined to claim all three points as they chase a coveted home final.

A win on Sunday would not only boost their position on the table, but also send a strong message heading into the business end of the campaign. Expect a fired-up Wanderers side to come out with intent, backed by the passionate Red & Black faithful.
