Match Preview: Wanderers v Canberra

Canberra United are on the road to face Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday for an A-League Women clash at Wanderers Football Park.

Canberra United defeated Adelaide United 4-2 at home in their last A-League Women match, their third straight win, leaving them in fifth place on 20 points through 14 matches.

Western Sydney Wanderers sit in eighth place on 15 points through 15 matches. Wanderers played out a 1-1 draw in their last A-League Women match at Macedonia Park against Perth Glory.

Canberra won the last A-League Women meeting between the sides, emerging victorious 3-0 at McKellar Park in February. Michelle Heyman led Canberra United Women with two goals, netting in the fourth and 25th minute. Sasha Grove also was on target.

Canberra have got the better of Wanderers of late with wins in three straight matches, dating to January 2021. Canberra United Women have outscored Western Sydney Wanderers FC Women 11-0 during their winning streak.

Visitors Canberra have been a threat to opposition teams courtesy of Heyman, who has netted on 11 occasions, including three match-opening goals. She ranks second in the league’s scoring charts in 2022/2023.

The trio of Amy Harrison, Sophie Harding, and Olivia Price have provided stand-out moments for Wanderers this season. Harrison is the side’s top scorer with three goals, followed by Harding and Price with two each.

Hosts Wanderers have secured 13 points (W4 D1 L2) from a possible 21 on offer in seven A-League Women contests on home soil this season. Western Sydney Wanderers FC Women have a five-match home unbeaten streak (W4 D1 L0) dating to January 8 against Melbourne City. In league matches away from home this season, Canberra have two wins, one draw, and three losses.

In their last six league matches, Wanderers have won two, drawn one and lost three. Canberra, meanwhile, have won four and lost two in their last six.
