NPL Preview: St George FC vs Wanderers

The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 2 team will be looking to extend their unbeaten run when they travel to Ilinden Sports Centre to play defending NPL 2 Champions St George FC.

The Red & Black’s previous visit to Ilinden Sports Centre was in June 2018 finishing with a 2-2 scoreline after goals from Samuel Silvera and Marley Peterson.

Coached by former Socceroo Wally Savor, St George currently sit in 12th place with their most recent result a 1-1 draw against Macarthur Rams.

For the Red & Black, Elliot Carwardine looks to have a promising future. The goalkeeper joined the Wanderers for the 2017/18 Foxtel Y-League season after playing junior football for the Northern Tigers.

Carwardine was a part of the Wanderers U18 squad that made the 2018 Grand Final, while also getting time with the U20-s and NPL 2 1st Grade side.

Still only 19 years of age, Carwardine also started in the 2019 Foxtel Y-League Grand Final against Brisbane Roar.

Jarrod Carluccio is another player who we may be seeing more of in the coming weeks. Carluccio has been with the Wanderers Academy since its inception and tasted Grand Final success with the U18 later that year.

Further Championship success would follow as he was promoted to the U20s, coming off the bench in the 2017 U20 Grand Final triumph and captained the U20s in last year’s Grand Final victory over Hills United.

Able to play as striker or on the wing, Carluccio has also earned selection to the Australian Schoolboys team for the last two years.
