NPL Preview: Western Sydney Wanderers v Manly United

Our NPL NSW side is in action this afternoon as they host Manly United in Round 24.

The Wanderers ended their losing run with a 2-2 draw last weekend against St George FC in
what ended up being an exciting match.

It began with a bang with two goals inside two minutes, including a bullet of a free-kick from
Ryley Hollingdale.

The Wanderers hit the front with just over 10 minutes to go, but a St George goal from a
free-kick of their own meant the points had to be shared.

It was frustrating for the side’s winless run to continue, but an important point would boost the
confidence of a young side that has dealt with adversity in recent weeks yet still performed
admirably.

They will hope to return to the winners circle against a side they haven’t lost to since their return to the NPL NSW competition.

The Wanderers have two wins and a draw in three matches against Manly since the start of last year, and their win earlier in the season was one of their best.

In a complete performance from start to finish, the Wanderers secured a 5-0 win on the road
against Manly, with Marcus Younis scoring the pick of the goals with a spectacular bicycle kick
just before half-time.

This also may be a good time for the Wanderers to face Manly, with their opponents for this
weekend having lost their last two games. They fell to a 2-1 defeat against Sydney Olympic two weeks ago, and followed that up with a disappointing 2-0 loss at home to relegation battlers Hills United.

That said, Manly are well clear of the relegation battle, sitting in 10th place and six points off the Wanderers, having conceded more goals and scored 30 less than the Red and Black.
