A first-half goal by Palmeiras’ Gabriel Veron split the two sides in the tightly contested affair, with Palmeiras continuing their undefeated run in the group stage of the tournament.
The Red & Black started the match strong despite the muggy conditions and had a number of chances through Lochlan Constable and Jacob Casha to find the opener.
But Palmeiras found a break and a swift counter-attack saw Geilson smash his shot into the crossbar, only for Veron to pounce on the rebound and convert.
The Wanderers then struggled to get back into the match and a late desperate chance by Gabriel Popovic looked to have found the equaliser, unfortunately, he was flagged offside.
The Red & Black will now have a short turnaround for their final group stage match against Dynamo Kyiv from Ukraine.
