Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today unveiled an exciting new partnership with the Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese set to kick off in 2025.
To mark the beginning of this partnership, a group of superstar students from Catholic schools across the region gathered at Wanderers Park in Blacktown for a thrilling match against the Wanderers’ players.
The game, which saw plenty of goals and excitement, was the perfect way to introduce this new community initiative.
Wanderers captain Lawrence Thomas, made his official return from injury during the match, playing alongside his teammates.
Thomas, who is an alumni of St Pauls Catholic College in Greystanes, had a special connection with the event, as he took on primary school students from Sacred Heart Primary School Mount Druitt, Holy Family Primary School Emerton, Good Shepherd Plumpton, and St. Aidan’s Primary School Rooty Hill.
The students had an unforgettable experience, not only playing with the Wanderers’ stars but also taking part in a training session led by Wanderers coaches.
The event was further supported by five exceptional secondary students from the Catholic schools, including Akol Akon from Emmaus Catholic College, who currently plays for the Wanderers and recently represented the Australian Joeys U17s team. Akol was joined by other talented students, including Thomas Cutuk from Marian Catholic College Kenthurst, Allegra Rademeyer from St John Paul II Catholic College Schofields & Nirimba, Sebastian Kukucka from St Paul’s (who plays for Sydney United), and Andrea Plaatjes from St Agnes CHS Rooty Hill (who plays for Spirit FC).
This partnership is set to provide students across the Parramatta Catholic Schools Diocese with further pathways into football, starting next year, and further strengthens the connection between the Wanderers and their community.
