Western Sydney Wanderers FC has today officially parted ways with Westfield W-League forward Lynn Williams to allow the player to focus on her national team duties.

The American striker joined the Red & Black this season from North Carolina Courage and made an immediate impact, scoring four goals in five appearances.

During Williams’ breakout stint at the Wanderers, the pacey forward was named in the US National Women’s Teams roster for their Olympic Qualifying campaign.

Using the platform of the Wanderers in the Westfield W-League, Williams went on to have her career-best performances for the US Women’s National Team.

Williams will now depart the Red & Black immediately to link up with the USWNT participating in the SheBelieves Cup in two weeks time and upcoming Olympic Games.

The forward thanked both the club and her teammates for being so supportive of her Olympic dream.

“I would like to thank the Wanderers for taking a chance on me and seeing me as a vital part of the team. I would also like to thank them for understanding the unique circumstances that I am in and wishing me all the best going forward in my pursuit of being on the Olympic team,” said Williams.

“I would also like to thank my teammates for all the hard work and dedication they have put into their craft of football as well as being such a welcoming community, making me feel part of the team so quickly.

“I would like to thank them for being so understanding and supportive of my decision as well.”
