Wanderers secure Academy captain Oscar Morrison

Western Sydney Wanderers FC have continued their commitment to developing the next generation of talent, with Academy captain Oscar Morrison signing with the club.

Morrison’s journey is a story of long-term development within the Wanderers pathway, having joined the club’s Academy as an Under 13s player and progressed through every stage of the football program over the past seven years.

A local product from the Hills District, Morrison has grown up as part of the Western Sydney football community and has been long connected to the club, supporting the Wanderers as a junior while developing his own pathway through the system.

Now captain of the Wanderers’ National Premier Leagues first grade side, the young defender has established himself as a respected leader within the squad, recognised for his consistency, professionalism and influence on and off the pitch.

Morrison said signing his first professional contract with the club holds special significance given his long-standing connection with the club.

“I’m very thankful for the opportunity, it means a lot to me,” said Morrison.

“Especially being a junior at the club and spending so much of my development here. Signing for the club that I’ve supported since I was a child is massive for me and my family.

“My family used to take me to games when I was younger, so to now be in this position means a lot. It’s also big for everyone around me who has helped me along the way.”

Morrison believes the current group of young players coming through the system can help drive the club forward in the seasons ahead.

“I think we have a good spark of energy,” he said.

“It’s an opportunity to take the club to the next level. There’s a new group of young players coming through who are hungry to push us higher in the league and show the strength of our Academy system.”

Wanderers Football Director Mal Impiombato said Morrison’s signing was a reflection of the club’s belief in its pathway.

“Oscar is a great example of what our football program is designed to achieve,” said Impiombato.

“He has progressed through our Academy over a number of years, consistently demonstrating the work ethic, attitude and leadership required to take this next step.

“His development into captain of our NPL side highlights the respect he has earned within the environment and the standards he sets every day.

“As a local Western Sydney player, his journey is one that reflects the strength of our pathway and the opportunities available to young players who commit to their development. We are proud to see him take this next step and look forward to his continued growth as part of the Wanderers.”
